Samsung Inside! Intel’s Fab-ulous Outsourcing Initiative

TSMC Ain’t The Kinda Place To Raise This Kit

Intel’s 14nm Rocket Lake CPUs are not due out until late 2020 or early 2021, which sounds a lot further away than it actually is, which is why they are making news this morning.  The rumour is that Intel will be outsourcing production of these chips to reduce the strain on their own fabs in an attempt to mitigate the supply issues which have been plaguing them throughout the year.  Originally, it was thought they would choose TSMC to fab these 14nm chips, but according to what The Inquirer spotted, it will be Samsung that gets their business. 

While it is possible that AMD’s ties to GLOFO and TSMC could have influenced this decision, it seems far more likely it was the significantly lower contract pricing which Samsung is offering that swayed them.  We shall see in the coming months if this helps with the supply of Intel’s desktop and mobile processors.
