CES 2024: NVIDIA Announces RTX 40 Series SUPER Cards

Don’t call it a price drop

NVIDIA has made their rumored SUPER cards a reality, announcing a trio of new RTX 40 Series GPUs with the SUPER moniker this morning. These will be the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER (yes, it’s both Ti and SUPER for some reason), and GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER.

NVIDIA was vague on specifics, so we will have to update you later with things like CUDA count and memory bandwidth, but one thing is abundantly clear: the lineup has changed, and some of these cards represent a price drop. Just look at this official slide:

NVIDIA did provide some indication of performance levels, which you can view by visiting their official announcement page, linked here, and details like the RTX 4070 SUPER being equipped with 20% more shaders than the original – for the same $599 price – are promising.

But about those price cuts mentioned above: there are two of them, and one is big. Starting with the smaller one, as NVIDIA is going to keep the original RTX 4070 in the lineup at $549 (but with a mere $50 price drop I can’t fathom picking one up over the more capable SUPER variant). In the middle of this the RTX 4070 Ti seems to disappear, with only the Ti SUPER in its stead at the old $799 price. But the big cut is at the top of the stack, with the new RTX 4080 SUPER replacing the original, and lowering the price from $1199 to $999 – a hefty $200 price drop – in the process.

The GeForce RTX 4090 remains at the top of the consumer product stack at $1599, so if you were hoping for a 4090 SUPER you’ll have to keep waiting (possibly forever). But it’s down towards the bottom of this slide that we find another missing card – the $499 GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB. We still see the 4060 Ti at $399, and now there will be a $549 option in the original RTX 4070, but what about that $499 price point? Seems like a good spot for the 4070 if you asked me.

As to availability, the RTX 4070 SUPER will go on sale January 17, starting at $599 USD, the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER will go on sale January 24, starting at $799 USD, and the RTX 4080 SUPER will go on sale January 31, starting at $999.
