MSI’s Literal Gaming X TRIO, The RX 6650 XT Gaming X, RX 6750 XT Gaming X TRIO And RX 6950 XT Gaming Trio
RDNA 2 Refined
Surprise! AMD just dropped three new cards on the market and here are the reviews. The RX 6650 XT which should retail around $400, the RX 6750 XT for around $550 and the RX 6950 XT which should cost a hefty $1100. Those MSRPs are a bit higher than the original RDNA2 models, lacking the extra 50 in their name; as we all know though, it is unlikely we will see them sell at that price for very long. The Guru of 3D took a look at a Gaming Trio from MSI, including their take on all three cards.
The MSI Radeon RX 6650 XT Gaming X sees a jump in Boost Frequency from 2359 MHz to 2635 MHz and the memory jumps from 16 Gbps to 17.5 Gbps, other than that the actual hardware remains the same. This new lower end card is also quite overclockable, hitting a Boost Clock of 2950MHz and memory clock of 19200 MHz which boosted performance around about 10%. That performance is often now more comparable to an RTX 3060 Ti at 1080p and 1440p, though there are a number of games in which NVIDIA’s similarly priced card leaves it in the dirt.
The MSI Radeon RX 6750 XT Gaming X TRIO gets a wee bump in Boost, from 2581 MHz to 2600 MHz though the memory gets a much bigger 2Gbps boost from 16 to 18 Gbps. The headroom on this card is a little more limited, as Guru 3D was only able to raise the Boost to float between 2900~2950MHz depending on the game, VRAM is similar , jumping up to 18Gbps from 16Gbps. Like the 6650 XT this is more of a 1080p or 1440p card, performance at 4K is not wonderful though mostly playable. Comparatively the card preforms around the level of the RTX 3070 and in rare cases the RTX 3070 Ti, but overall the performance results are all over the place.
Lastly is the MSI Radeon RX 6950 XT Gaming X TRIO is the new flagship card and is slightly faster than the original, the GPU is raised to 2310 MHz from 2250 MHz while memory matches the RX 6750 XT, increasing to 18Gbps from 16Gbps. The overclocking on this card is as impressive as the RX 6650 XT, as Guru3D could hit a Boost Clock between 2800 to 2900MHz while memory went from 18000 MHz to 19600MHz. That jump does have a nice effect on performance, but even without it this is a top tier 4K card. In most tests it surpasses NVIDIA’s RTX 3090 Ti, not including ray traced games of course. That is before the overclock by the way.
Don’t forget to take a look at Sebastian’s review before heading down to the long list of reviews.
There's a new AMD flagship in town, the MSI Radeon RX 6950 XT Gaming X TRIO is blazingly fast. As AMD refreshes its rDNA 2 graphics card portfolio with a new family of cards in 2022, this card series now comes with 18 Gbps memory and even faster clock frequencies.
