When The Radeon RX 6600 Meets The Radeon RX 6650 XT

The FPS Review took a close look at the performance difference between the RX 6600 and Radeon RX 6650 XT. The RX 6650 XT will cost you a bit more but for that ~$70 you get four more of both compute units and ray accelerators, a GPU that can provide an extra 466MHz base and 144MHz boost, as well as an extra 56GB/s of memory bandwidth. The question is what effect that has on gameplay, especially with FSR enabled.
The tests were generally conducted at 1440p, the exceptions being those games with ray tracing where the tests were done at 1080p. The performance difference from the Radeon RX 6650 XT is very noticeable, to the point where you can actually call this a 1440p card. The RX 6600 on the other hand is very much a 1080p card so being able to jump up to a better monitor for $70 is a fairly good deal.
Keep in mind one other difference, the RX6600 is rated at 132W while the RX 6650XT pulls 180W, this might be important if the PSU in your system is already close to it’s power limit.
What does the “XT” upgrade give you? How much does $70 buy you in gameplay performance? That is what we are going to find out today using two real retail video cards.
