Linksys has announced a router that they say is 'built purely for gaming' with the WRT32X, an AC3200 router with a 1.8 GHz dual-core processor and built-in Killer Prioritization Engine.
"The WRT32X takes gaming to the next level. The router built purely for gaming features AC3200 speed and the Killer Prioritization Engine. The Killer Prioritization Engine identifies, prioritizes and accelerates gaming network traffic above all other devices in your home to deliver a faster, superior gaming experience. The Killer-enabled WRT32X also synchronizes with Killer-enabled PCs to give gaming traffic the highest priority on your network. Turning the Killer Engine on protects from extreme lag spikes and reduces lag by 77%, delivering consistent and superior reaction time during intense gaming scenarios."
Linksys lists the features of the WRT32X as follows:
- 1.8 GHz CPU: Dual-Core promotes simultaneous high-speed data processing.
- Pro-grade Gigabit Ethernet Switch: Gigabit (10/100/1000) is 10X faster than Fast Ethernet.
- Dual-Band (2.4 + 5 GHz): N600 + AC2600 Mbps.
- Killer Prioritization Engine: The first router that prioritizes gaming.
- Advanced Security: WPA2 encryption and SPI rewall help keep your network safely connected.
- Customized Gaming Interface: Custom-built interface and firmware for gaming traffic control.
- 256MB Flash and 512MB of RAM Memory: Handle more without delay for optimal performance.
- 4 High-Performance Antennas: Engineered to enhance dual-band communication; four external, adjustable antennas ensure supreme Wi-Fi signal strength.
- eSATA, USB 3.0, and USB 2.0 Ports: Share content via an external storage device with ultra-fast data transfer speeds. USB 3.0 delivers enhanced performance over USB 2.0; eSATA delivers optimal data transfer speeds from external SATA drives and accommodates USB 2.0.
The WRT32X carries an MSRP of $329.99, with availability TBA.
All of this “gaming traffic
All of this “gaming traffic control” is absolute nonsense and people are stupid for buying into it. My router at home cost me £50 and I’ve had it 2 years and never had any issues when playing online, no lag spikes or poor ping times. I see it has that Killer technology in it, again, pure snake oil.
Yeah the whole first router
Yeah the whole first router to prioritize gaming traffic is BS that’s just QoS profiles and won’t help if you have a crappy ISP heck a basic dollar store router can be optimized for gaming traffic. Now if this was 10 ports 2 10 GB and 8 1 GB NICs sure be nice. 1 10gb for wan 1 for main PC or server.
Not enough antennae.
Not enough antennae.
“The first router that
“The first router that prioritizes gaming” Wow, could have fooled me. I thought companies were putting this on their advertising for 10+ years now.
Honestly though, I have had some success with QOS and traffic shaping in various situations.
Definitely doesn’t beat having a strong non-saturated connection though.
ill wait till the price
ill wait till the price drops. ALOT!
I’m kinda skeptical how well
I’m kinda skeptical how well this router will help to reduce the the latency (either wired or wireless connection) with conjunction of Killer network cards compared to other “non gaming” routers . maybe it will show it strength when you have a lot of traffic in your local network then it might have advantage compared to other routers. also it seems that Linksys changed direction in regards their products since they were purchased by Belkin (previously owned by Cisco).
The QOS stuff can make a big
The QOS stuff can make a big difference if you aren’t a single guy or gal in an apartment by yourself. What if you are gaming and your roommate decides to download a torrent or steam game and overrun your provisioned bandwidth. QOS could be a big help there.
^ This.
If you are forced to

If you are
forced to deal withlucky enough to have wife and kid(s) sharing your only internet connection with devices all over the house seemingly ALWAYS streaming HD video from Netflix and Amazon, then having a router that could prioritize certain kinds of traffic (gaming) could certainly allow for much better performance for the gamer in the house.I'll be checking one of these routers out soon and will have a review with my findings.
Marketing QOS profiles is
Marketing QOS profiles is nothing…

Needs A LOT more RGB leds before it can be called a “Gaming” Router!
I will never buy anything
I will never buy anything that is associated with KILLER. Pure BS.
waiting for stock of that
waiting for stock of that crazy ROG 8 Port Router its like $600 here but its never in stock. that will be my last router till they introduce wireless AD or Wigig 60ghz, that will have very limited range pretty much Line of sight lol.
All they need to do is slap
All they need to do is slap VR on the box and it will sell like hot cakes at cracker barrel…
