VideoCardz have apparently got their hands on an early ASUS press release for a new G-Sync monitor with DCI-P3 HDR support: the PG27UQ. This 27-inch panel can be driven up to 3840×2160 at 144 Hz, which is obviously a very high resolution that G-Sync will be a great help in making playable. This is one of the first G-Sync monitors to support HDR with the standard, just a couple of days after AMD announced FreeSync 2 (which also added HDR).

In terms of the display itself, it is based on IPS technology atop a quantum-dot-enhanced back-light. It has a high peak brightness (1,000 cd/m2) and likely a good contrast ratio as well, although the latter number is unlisted. They also don’t mention how far into the expanded color palette the monitor can represent, but they clearly didn’t intend to announce it yet, so we’ll probably find out when they’re ready. The leaked press release does mention that it has 384 local-dimming zones, though.
We’ll need to wait for an official announcement to find out more.

Because IPS have somewhat limited contrast ratio and black levels? Two things that makes HDR hard to accomplish in any meaningful way.
In order to achieve good HDR results you need to have great range between black and white (brightness). Considering how mediocre IPS normally is in terms of black levels I’m sceptical to how good the HDR performance will end up being.
The bad thing about HDR is that you don’t really need to have a panel that is capable of running HDR in any meaningful way in order to claim your display supports HDR. As long as the display supports either Dolby Vision or HDR10, preferably both you can toss that “HDR” buzzword in your marketing.

I do love ULMB, and I prefer
I do love ULMB, and I prefer ULMB in games and scenarios where I can assure I have 100 FPS+.
The problem with ULMB is that you really need to match frame rate and refresh rate unless you can live with a really choppy image.
And ULMB performance on lower refresh rates aren’t all that great, so for me a minimum of 80Hz/80FPS is required. I prefer it to be at least 100Hz/100FPS.
Being able to actually run games at UHD-resolution and get frame rates at a stable 80 FPS+ sounds utopian to me. So for me, ULMB on such a display, or even a 21:9 3440×1440 display is not that important as I wont be able to get a stable and high enough frame rate to actually utilise ULMB.

I don’t feel the need for 4K/UHD while gaming on 24-34-inch displays. It doesn’t really make much sense from a performance/quality standpoint.
It’s pretty much impossible to ensure a stable 100 FPS+ when running 4K/UHD, even with a GTX Titan X(P). So what’s the point? And image quality doesn’t improve all that much, at least not even close to enough for me to sacrifice the frame rate / performance. And with the current state of SLI / multi-GPU you have to be rather silly to invest in such systems / solutions.
But going all the way down to 2560×1080 on 32-inch? I would need to sit far away from the monitor for that to be acceptable. And the monitor would be horrible to use for anything besides gaming as the pixel density would make UI-elements and text in Windows horrible to look at in a day and age where we are custom to HiDPI displays and rendering in pretty much every device we use every day.

I doubt PG27UQ may cost more than $1000, although it’s very difficult to maintain 144fps in 3840 x 2160 resolution. Yes, GTX Titan XP SLI may work, but keep in mind that some games may scale poorly in either Crossfire/SLI mode. And of course, running Titan XP SLI will result high increased power consumption which is very bad for PG&E bill! So I’m waiting to see ASUS RoG Swift PG258Q tomorrow for pricing, specs, everything. If pricing costs more than BenQ XL2540, then I’ll simply buy BenQ XL2540 because it’s cheaper, affordable, and doesn’t come with either GS/FS.

Hahahaha, Sorry couldn’t take this seriously, the 32 inch pro arte 4k HDR is 1799-1999. It might not be pro but it has gsync and high refresh rate, given the original pg278q which I have set me back £800 when it first came out and its TN……..

SLI may not work? SLI and Multi-GPU is in a terrible place as of today. Indie-games is becoming more and more common, the amount of people playing only AAA-games is becoming fewer and fewer for every day that goes by.
And even when only playing AAA-games there are A LOT of games without any meaningful support for SLI and Multi-GPU so you are pretty much wasting your second GPU.
This comes from a person who have run SLI for several generations the past years and currently use 2x GTX 980. The amount of games not supporting SLI is increasing for every year. And it’s not like SLI is a good solution even when you mostly play games that supports it. A lot of games supporting SLI have various artifacts and glitches related to SLI and utilising features like G-Sync when running SLI is glitching out a lot of the time.
And pretty much all DX12 games thus far has NO support for SLI when running DX12 instead of DX11. The future is very grim for SLI and Multi-GPU in general.

Ah Give me a 30 to 34 Inch monitor, between 2560 x 1600 to 344x x 1440 resolution with 144 Hz Gsync. 27 inch is too small size. The monitor needs to be atleast 30″ IMHO. And not sure what is all this fud about 4K. Even the GTX Titan can not play all games ate 60+ FPS at 4K resolution.

This is a great step forward,
This is a great step forward, but I’m a little disappointed that nobody is offering a larger screen in the specs I wanted. I have a fairly new desktop (Dual Nvidia 1080 SLI) and was holding out for a serious upgrade with 32″ or wide 34″-38″ PC monitor. I have a 32″ now and definitely don’t want smaller.
My dream monitor was this larger size with true HDR (1000nits), >100 hz (preferably 144), 1ms, G-sync, and 1440 horizontal lines. Oled would have been great but wasn’t expecting it.
I really don’t see anything beating the the ACER X34 (or ASUS PG348Q) which are already for sale. It looks like the Photo folks are getting the updated displays over the Gamers.
