In case you missed it earlier this week, Ubisoft revealed the PC system requirements needed to run Far Cry 4. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal and set to release on November 18th, Far Cry 4 is the latest action adventure FPS in the Far Cry series. The game uses Ubisoft's Dunia Engine II which is a heavily modified game engine originally based on Crytek's CryEngine 1 developed by Kirmaan Aboobaker. The player is a Nepalese native that returns to Kyrat, a fictional location in the Himalayas following the death of their mother only to become embroiled in a civil war taking place in an open world filled with enemies, weapons, animals, and did I mention weapons?
This bow is a far cry from the only weapon you'll have access to…
According to the developer, Far Cry 4 continues the tradition of an open world environment, but the game world has been tweaked from the Far Cry 3 experience to be a tighter and more story focused experience where the single player story will take precedence over exploration and romps across the mountainous landscape.
While I can not comment on how the game plays, it certainly looks quite nice, and will need a beefy modern PC to run at its maximum settings. Interestingly, the game seems to scale down decently as well, with the entry level computer needed to run Far Cry 4 being rather modest.
No matter the hardware level, only 64-bit operating systems need apply, Far Cry 4 requires the 64-bit version of Windows 7 or later to run. At a minimum, Ubisoft recommends a quad core processor (Intel i5 750 or AMD Phenom II X4 955), 4GB of memory, a Radeon 5850 or GTX 460, and 30GB of storage.
To get optimal settings, users will need twice the system memory (at least 8GB) and video memory (at least 2GB), a newer quad core CPU such as the Intel i5-2400S or AMD FX-8350, and a modern NVIDIA GTX 680 or AMD Radeon R9 290X graphics card.
Anything beyond that is gravy that will allow gamers to crank up the AA and AF as well as the resolution.
Far Cry 4 will be available in North America on November 18, 2014 for the PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360. Following the North America release, the game is scheduled to launch in Europe and Australia on November 20th, and in Japan on January 22 of next year.
So Nvid…. sorry, Ubisoft’s
So Nvid…. sorry, Ubisoft’s programmers did a marvelous job making a GTX 680 to look like an R9 290X(or an R9 290X look like a GTX 680, depending on how you look at it).
I was thinking the exact same
I was thinking the exact same thing… Why would they do this? I mean a 7970/280x is faster than a 680 gtx. Isn’t the point of a game to get as many people as possible to buy it? How will this benefit them…? Getting really annoyed with Ubisoft and a Nvidia.
simple solution, don’t buy
simple solution, don’t buy the game and pirate it, if you really want to play it.
Same this happened with Watch Dogs, couldn’t play it on a triple R9 290 system. Fortunately i didn’t buy it…
I accept your
I accept your point…….Still cannot play watch dogs on AMD, lucky i run Nvidia systems too, but for god sake don’t pirate the game. Wait 3 months and it will be half price and have bugs fixed.
No game sales on PC no games on PC.
Well thats true, i’m not a
Well thats true, i’m not a fan of pirating but since someone decided that demos aren’t cool, its the only way to test a game with your hardware.
But today you never know what you get and i personally rather go the save route. Like CoD AW, no 21:9 support, damn Dead Space form 2008 runs in 21:9, 3440×1440 …
I don’t pirate games. If a
I don’t pirate games. If a game looks good I will pay for it.
Now the case of Ubisoft for me, is an exception. They seem to be really happy with Nvidia’s money in their pockets, so I guess they don’t need mine. I am not always with an AMD card in my system, but when I am, I don’t feel the need to pay the full price for something that will definitely, not offer me the experience and features it advertises.
Until Ubisoft change the way it does business, I don’t bother with their games. And with that I mean I don’t buy them, I don’t pirate them. I don’t care about them. There are dozens of other good games to enjoy, without testing all the patches that will come out to fix the problems on NON approved hardware from their main sponsor.
Agreed. Pirating the game
Agreed. Pirating the game just gives publishers the excuse of not putting the effort into cross-platform PC games.
If you love PC games then pirating them is the worst thing you can do for our platform.
THATS AN IN HOUSE ENGINE NOT

Right, I worded that poorly.
Right, I worded that poorly. I've clarified that bit. Thanks for responding as I had not had a chance to look at the comments until now.
Remember several years back
Remember several years back when everyone was complaining about how games don’t properly utilize multiple cores and more RAM? Well, here we go! We finally got our wish!
Buy an Ubisoft game on PC? Do
Buy an Ubisoft game on PC? Do I look that stupid?!
Just don’t buy it now, you
Just don’t buy it now, you buy it when it hits Steam Summer Sale next year, why I waited to get Black Flag this past summer.
forgot to add that by the
forgot to add that by the time it hits summer sale on Steam, not only will it be cheaper, but also better optimized.
… and contain all the
… and contain all the worthless DLC.
I’ll try the “demo” in a few
I’ll try the “demo” in a few months.
And if I find myself playing for longer than an hour.
Not just testing graphics..
I’ll buy it on sale on steam sometime and no-life it.
YUP.
I will not upgrade hardware ever for a single game.
That encourages poor business ethic for Nvidia.
They are too manipulative and power hungry.
They believe they can just lock down and do anything these days.
Basically think they’re customers are morons if I’d say.
I find it insulting.
I’ll be going from EVGA nvidia cards (though I do love EVGA but don’t feel comfortable giving money to nvidia currently) to putting Sapphire AMD cards in my builds for the next while to see how things are fairing on their end of things. Sapphire GPU’s never did me wrong in the past. Just price-wise it made sense to go to NVIDIA the past while, RMA’d 660’s > 750’s. (Usually at the most suffered from light coil whine, a few of em anyways..)
Nearing 770 performance for the 150 price range, good deal.
My experiences with AMD through-out my life left me feeling like a human. Not a number.
ANYWHO, sick of nvidias manipulation and poor customer support.
And even sicker with the fact that so many tech sites just turn a blind eye out of it in fear of nvidia cutting off their relations with them. Basically cowardly.
I would love to see an interview with that nvidia PR guy and have him receive a few ACTUAL questions that are not just an opportunity for a sales pitch and have not been screened.
Like “Why does it make sense to require these specs?”
Or “Why have you guys circulation broken out of the box RMA’d units as replacements for people who paid full retail price for a new product? Sometimes forcing people to RMA over 4 times already, and each time receiving another defective unit.”
One of the customer service reps assured me next time..
“I’ll leave a note to assure you receive a new one next time”
Uh-huh.
So with them locking down game features, manipulating performance on different hardware configurations, lying to and abusing their customers…
Yea, good luck on me paying 60 bucks every again for a game with your name on it.
IDDDIIIIIIIIIIIIIIOTS.
I may be alone here, probably
I may be alone here, probably am, but I pre-ordered this game the moment it became available. Full price months before it I can even play it.
1) I love Far Cry 3. At first I pirated it, Loved it, and bought the Deluxe Edition, with all the DLC and then I bought Blood Dragon. Plus I should mention that I played them both a few times through on the power of ONLY a apu. Even at lowest setting 800/600 it was an awesom game, super fun, great story, and even at those low low setting it still looked nice. I now have a decent medium/low end gpu. It looks better BUT it was a great game then It’s a great game now.
2) So It’s optimized for nVidia, WHO CARES? When creating a flagship game you need to chose one set of features to make your game the best it posibly can be, and as of right now nVidia has a larger market share so this is gona make the game look better on more computers. If you dont optimize then you compromise, and that’s not what flagship is all about. Most of the features we on the AMD side will be missing are tiny background nothings anyways. Yes it’s cool to have life-like hair on a yak and natural distance oriented shady trees, very nice if you are compatible, but not in anyway a factor in buying this game OR in choosing your hardware.
My system is just a tiny bit better than the minimum recomended system I’ll be happy if I can hit 720p on medium settings, but If I gota turn down the settings that’s fine too. A good game is a good game. Now I just gota hope it doesn’t suck.
Yep, i liked Far Cry 3 much
Yep, i liked Far Cry 3 much more than Far Cry 2, and for awhile was really into it. Unfortuantely,I am /still/ stuck at that point after you take out that big demon thing with the bow. The running suicide bombers keep killing me :P.
Any tips? 🙂
Seriously? It’s just like
Seriously? It’s just like when you first meet the flood in halo 1, keep moving back and slashing with the knife. It helps A lot if you already have the tanto.
Okay, I feel stupid now, I
Okay, I feel stupid now, I went to play it earlier today and beat it the first time no problem haha. I guess I didn't realize you could just click with the bow and not wait for it to draw back lmao. So I clicked around fast enough to kill them. Also, (duh!!) I didn't have to hit them directly, shooting just in front of them took them out just as well.
Le sigh, took less than 3 minutes to do that mission, was stuck on that for so long >.>
Lmfao ubisoft stock took
Lmfao ubisoft stock took almost 10% hit today, even investors know ubisoft is full of it.
That hit probably came
That hit probably came because of how bad performance is on the new consoles. The fact is people are freaking out that Assassins creed is stuttering on both “Next Gen” consoles, droping below 15fps in a few reports. Is it Ubi’s fault, is it M$ and $ony? doesn’t matter, confidence drops, stock drops. If anything it proves what a technical failure the current consoles are. After 30+ years of fighting to be the best POSIBLE console, the 2 big players suddenly decided “We’ll make them profitable, they’ll buy one or the other, what choice do they have?” Best case scenario now is for M$ to license DirectX to Steam-OS, stop calling them “Video Games” and go back to calling them “Computer Games” like we shoulda all along.
My parents always told me aim
My parents always told me aim for an A+ in life you’ll usually aim at target or at least get a B definitely pass, of you aim for that D or bairly pass your bound to fail, and then you’ll always make excuses how its hard fpr evoryone else so its ok to drop out. The story is so symbol aim for 30 fps they got 15 at some point, if they aimed for 60 they probably would have ended up with 45 fps. 30 frames target is bound for failure!
