AMD Announces Ryzen 9 7945HX3D Mobile CPU: Laptop 3D V-Cache Arrives
AMD has brought 3D V-cache technology to mobile, and they have created a monster.
This morning AMD is announcing the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D, a product they are calling “the new ultimate mobile gaming processor”. It offers a full 16 cores / 32 threads, up to 5.4 GHz boost frequency, and – most importantly – 128 MB of 3D V-cache, which brings the total up to 144 MB.
Like its desktop Ryzen 9 counterpart, this X3D mobile processor only offers 3D V-cache on one of the two Zen 4 CCDs, but optimization will not be up to the end-user as this will obviously be coming pre-configured in a gaming laptop.
AMD has given this Ryzen 9 7945HX3D part a “55+W” TDP, but they point out the advantages of 3D V-cache in a reduced power envelope implementation, claiming greater gains at 40W than even 70W (see slide below).
All of this adds up to what AMD is calling “the world’s fastest mobile gaming processor”, and the company says it is an average of more than 15% faster than the non-X3D Ryzen 9 7945HX, with some titles being more affected by the large cache than others, naturally.
All of this sounds very exciting, but as this is a notebook part we need to wait for partners to launch new products featuring the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D. Thankfully, we have less than a month before ASUS will launch the ROG Strix SCAR 17 X3D (on August 22), which will take an already impressive design to the next level.
