We already know one reason that some Galaxy Fold devices suffered screen failure, but there have been other reports of failures from wiser souls who did not remove a certain bit of plastic. iFixit have since been probing into the issue and have come up with a hypothesis, gaps allowing dust and other contaminates which are incredibly bad for OLEDs, into the body of the phone. There is a 7mm gap between the screen and the phones' front edge and more on the back of the phone's main hinge. The quote at The Inquirer describes just how bad the hinge is; "The spine is flanked by massive gaps that our opening picks hop right into".
This may not be the entire story of the untimely deaths we have been seeing, though it seems it will be a long term problem as OLED killing particles have several ways into the Galaxy Fold.
"It's worth noting that a lot of review units were reportedly borked by folks removing a layer that looked like a removable screen protector but was, in fact, part of the display."

That Phone’s Folding Hinge
That Phone’s Folding Hinge looks more like the mouth of some industrial car shredder than a properly designed hinge for a folding smartphone. Maybe that whole assembly needs to be sealed in a silicone based boot to close up that 7mm gap and keep out any dust/dirt and keep the flexable srceen from being damaged from its back side.
So some re-engineering and a better solution if possible compared to Apple’s Butterfly Keyboard and that whole mess where precision parts are so defenceless against even the smallest of dust particles. But smartphones costing 2 grand is really some special form of insanity anyways. I guess with it being past peak smartphone/tablet that the Samsungs/Apples of the Phone/Tablet world have to attempt to fruther increase their more top end market segement’s ASPs or those stock values will continue to decline in lockstep with the revenue declines.
Samsung’s becoming unhinged in the phone and DRAM/NAND markets recently what with all the declining smartphone/tablet demand. But that sure is reather good for the home PC system builder market lately where the prices are returnig back to earth on those PC component costs! And if you are not currently using Intel/Nvidia CPUs and GPUs of the latest generation then the entire PC system’s cost is going to be had for some of the lowest costs in years.

“•US Farmers Are Being Bled By the Tractor Monopoly @ Slashdot”
It looks like Teddy Roosevelt is turning in his grave and really the Monopoly Trusts situation is worse now than even in the Time of the Standard Oil Trust that put the name Trust in Antitrust when the first antitrust laws began to be enacted and properly enforced.
Just wait until 2020 when Windows 7 goes EOL and watch what happens as a result of M$ being allowed to become a De Facto unregulated public utility in PC/Laptop OS market place.
The farmers will have to pass that extra cost along to someone or they will go out of business and the Small Farmers are the ones hurt the most.
It really is both political parties that need to be forced to put Trust Busting back front and center of the political discussion. And they need to move away from those distracting wedge issues that are just there to keep attention focused elswhere instead of on breaking up the big Trusts and abusive monopolies that have taken hold of the US to such a great degree over that past 50 years.
That Citizens United SCOTUS decision needs to be overruled by Congressional action and the political process put back into the control of actual living persons instead of some artifically declared entities that are not actually living persons.
The right to repiar is being removed for consumers on so many levels and they are using software/copyright laws applied in an unnatural manner to force Farmers to pay the tractor monopoly even if the farmer has a third party do the repairs or can do it themselves. These Unchecked Abusive Monopolies/Trusts are running roughshod over the consumer in the US all while the paid for politions push on those wedge issue buttons from both sides of the aisle and it’s all because of that Citizens United and the failed state of bipartisan campain finance reform.
The John Deere style of abusive market leader tactics need to be stopped and the Tractor Market is high tech now what with all the microprocessor controlled systems on modern Tractors/AG-Equipment.
Welcome to the new serfdom, peasants, and there will be plenty of UWP(Universal Windows Peasants) come 2020 and beyond.

Meh, seems like something they just threw out there. I am still curious about that image of a bulge happening in the fold though.
