The Internet of Sh … SEO Optimization
Backlinks And SEO Optimization Are Drowning Out Content
You may have noticed that it is getting harder and harder to find answers to questions on the internet, or to find things for sale by local vendors recently. You can blame this on the hottest tech topic going, so called AI. SEO optimization has met LLMs and the companies which offer SEO optimization are in love with it. They have found ways automate creating product descriptions which are unique, ridiculously long and full of superfluous text which no one in their right mind is going to try to read through. The problem is that Google’s Search absolutely loves it, sort of SEO optimization candy.
It is quickly becoming necessary to make use of these SEO optimization services in order for a company to have any chance of showing up on the first page of Google results. It is also starting to swamp informational searches in addition to shopping links, not quite as bad yet but it grows worse every day. The need to use the services to make yourself visible on Search results means that descriptions, back links and other SEO optimization tools will only make this worse, as LLMs will need to provide unique descriptions for similar products. Soon the garbage text created by SEO optimization will far outweigh the human readable text or at least bury it so deeply it will take a second LLM to make it useful.
BTW, SEO optimization.
Small businesses must decide if they'll try to learn SEO practices themselves or pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars to have a marketing firm do it for them.
