How Much Of An Upgrade Is The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Over The GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER
Testing Out The $400 Launch Point
The FPS Review put out a review which might seem odd at first glance, obviously an RTX 4060 Ti should be faster than the RTX 2060 SUPER. However what they are actually testing is two cards which both launched at $399 and are curious if upgrading to a new card at the same (moderately) reasonable price is worth it. The days of upgrading every generation seem to be a memory for most, so what does four years and two generations do?
When the dust settled, at 1080p the the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is on average 57% faster than the RTX 2060 SUPER sans ray tracing and 81% with ray tracing. The 1440p tests came out similarly, giving you an idea what spending another $400 will bring you. There is a caveat to these results, though it is unlikely to have any noticeable effect on your results. The RTX 2060 SUPER is a 16x PCIe 3.0 card while the RTX 4060 Ti is an 8x PCIe 4.0 card, so if you are running a motherboard that doesn’t support PCIe 4.0 you won’t necessarily get the most out of that card.
There is also the question of memory, as you won’t be getting any more VRAM with this upgrade.
You are probably asking yourself, what kind of a performance upgrade are you actually going to get after four years if you upgrade straight from a GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER to the new GeForce RTX 4060 Ti?
